Need help paying for Medicare or Medicaid?

Here are 4 government programs that can help:

1. QMB--QUALIFIED MEDICARE BENEFICIARY PROGRAM

Pays your Medicare premiums, deductibles, and co-insurance. You do not need to be on Medcaid to get QMB.

2. SLMB--SPECIFIED LOW-INCOME MEDICARE BENEFICIARY PROGRAM

Pays your Medicare Part B premium. You do not need to be on Medicaid to get Q1-1.

3. Q1-2--QUALIFIED INDIVIDUAL-2 PROGRAM

Pays up to $34.44 per year towards your Medicare Part B premium. You do not need to be on Medicaid to get Q1-2.

4. MEDICAID

Pays your Medicare premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance. It also covers additional benefits, like prescirption drugs and eyeglasses. If your income or savings seem a little too high, you should still contact your local Medicaid Office. You may qualify.

Income limitations currently range from $600 - $1238 per month for individuals and $958 - $1661 per month for couples, depending on the program. If your income is a little higher, you may still qualify since Medicaid allows you to subtract your monthly health care costs before determining if you're within the limits. Asset limitations currently range from $3,600 - $4,000 for individuals and $5,250-$6,000 for couples depending on the program, and do not include the house you live in, your car, and up to $1500 for a burial fund.

If you have any questions, you can call Medicare at 1(800) 633-4227 or the Medicare Rights Center at 1(800) 333-4114
