ASSESSING YOUR PROPER WEIGHT

     

Being overweight or underweight can be deletrious to our health, especially as we get older. The best way to know whether we are at a healthy weight, is to calculate our body mass index (BMI). Follow the simple formula below to determine your BMI.

DETERMINING YOUR BODY MASS INDEX (BMI):

1. Weigh yourself in the a.m. before breakfast and before getting dressed.
2. Measure your height (in inches.)
3. Multiply your weight (in pounds) by 700.
4. Divide by your height.
5. Divide again by your height.

You now know your Body Mass Index. Here is what the number means:


18.5 or less is underweight
18.5 - 24.9 is a healthy weight
25-29.9 is overweight
